As an owner of a business law firm in San Diego, I have the pleasure of having a feel for the pulse of San Diego corporate and small businesses. Economics and statistics play its role, but business confidence is what I follow as it is what drives the statistics. The sense of positive outlook is higher than it has been in years despite the uncertain rhetoric in the national platform.
The San Diego County’s Business Outlook released a report earlier this year that scored San Diego small businesses at 28.0, a 42% increase from 2010, a major improvement. According to the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Outlook index ranges from -200 (every business is maximally pessimistic about every metric) to +200 (every business is maximally optimistic about every metric).
With the 2012 election campaign creating anxiety on both sides of the fence, I think that November will bring us a sense of certainty that has been missing in these last two years no matter who wins the top ticket.
